Expedition Biru | Triton Bay & Misool

Starts in: Kaimana,
Ends in: Sorong
From 5030 USD
12 days

Following two fully booked Raja Ampat expeditions, Expedition Biru ventures even further—to where rainforest-clad cliffs fall straight into turquoise bays, and coral reefs remain almost untouched by time. This expedition sails through Triton Bay and Misool: two remote corners of Indonesia joined by currents that breathe life into the most biodiverse marine region on Earth.

Over twelve days, guests sail through a mosaic of hidden bays and seamounts thriving with marine life: whale sharks feeding, dolphins weaving through bow waves, and mantas gliding over coral gardens.

Here, more than 550 coral species, 31 cetacean species and over 1,800 fish species create a living kaleidoscope. Pygmy seahorses hide in sea fans, wobbegong and walking sharks prowl the reefs, and with luck, encounters with rare whales await—continuing an ongoing search for cetaceans across Indonesia’s vast waters.

This is diving at its purest: remote, vibrant, and unfiltered—an expedition for those who want to see Indonesia as it truly is.

Your Expedition Leaders, Iris & Wendy

This expedition is hosted by Wendy Mitchell and Iris Uijttewaal, the founders of Expedition Biru. Between them they bring over a decade of experience living and working in Raja Ampat, leading conservation-focused dive programs, and capturing the region’s stories through photography, design, and science communication.

Their deep ties with local communities and years spent exploring Indonesia’s remotest reefs mean you’re not just joining a liveaboard – you’re joining insiders who reveal hidden dive sites, share regional history, and help you see each encounter through the lens of conservation. Expect expert guidance underwater, engaging evening workshops, and an atmosphere that feels more like a passionate community than a tour.

“My six years spent on Arborek, a tiny island in the heart of the archipelago, are testament to my love for this region. Everything here feels vividly alive; the coral reefs, the rich culture, even the skies painting stunning sunsets and sunrieses. It’s unbeatable.”

Iris Uijttewaal

“Cruise directing a liveaboard in this region taught me more than just its dive sites – it gave me a language, friendships, and a deep love for this place. Sharing it with others comes naturally, and I hope it inspires people to protect what’s beneath the surface.”

Wendy Mitchell

Expedition Biru: Empowering Local Women to Protect Raja Ampat

Raja Ampat’s islands are often called the last paradise—yet even here, change is unfolding beneath the surface. Warmer oceans and coral stress are quiet reminders that this paradise, too, needs guardians. That awareness became the heart of Expedition Biru, founded by Iris and Wendy.

Every expedition directly supports a local women’s dive education program in Raja Ampat—helping create opportunities that ripple far beyond the reef.

Over the past year, Persila and Pinjalin, two young women from Arborek, have completed their PADI Open Water certifications and are about to begin their Advanced Open Water training. Watching their confidence grow underwater has been one of the program’s proudest achievements. They are already inspiring others on the island to follow in their footsteps.

The vision is simple: to build a generation of local Papuan divers who not only understand their reefs but have the knowledge, skills, and voice to protect them. Each booking increases capacity to train more women, equip them with dive gear, and continue long-term mentorship once the course is complete.

Guests who join an expedition become part of that mission—not just exploring Indonesia’s wildest reefs, but helping ensure that the people who call these waters home can lead their protection for generations to come.

The Phinisi: Ilike Liveaboard

This traditionally-built phinisi liveaboard caters to just 16 guests in 8 cabins. Each cabin has air-conditioning and private bathrooms. The many social areas include an indoor seating area and two sundecks with loungers the perfect place to relax in between dives or unwind with a beer at the end of the day whilst enjoying the spectacular Indonesian sunsets. The onboard chefs freshly prepares meals – a mix of Indonesian and international cuisine, which will be served in the outdoor seating area protected from the wind.

Two tenders will take you to the dive sites. The boat is equipped with Nitrox, a dedicated camera station and a large dive deck at the front of the boat with outside showers.
