The Cenderawasih Bay Whale Shark Diving Expedition is a long-range marine biodiversity liveaboard designed for divers who value remote regions, natural encounters, and expedition-style travel shaped by sea conditions rather than fixed schedules. Sailing from Manokwari to Biak in West Papua, the route focuses on reef exploration, community-based island visits, and time in Kwatisore, known as the whale shark village.
Over the course of the expedition, divers travel through a wide range of underwater environments. The journey moves through Numfor, Rumberpon, Mioswar, Auri, Boomerang Atoll, Num, Supiori, and Biak, combining reef dives, wreck dives, snorkeling sessions, and cultural island visits.
This is not a standard Raja Ampat itinerary. Distances are longer and crossings are part of the experience. Dive planning follows sea conditions and wildlife movement. Whale shark encounters in Kwatisore are a highlight of the voyage, but sightings depend entirely on natural patterns.
This expedition suits experienced and confident divers who value flexibility, patience, and true expedition-style exploration.

Manokwari: Wreck Diving & Departure Point
The expedition begins in Manokwari with scheduled wreck dives before departing on an overnight cruise toward Numfor. These first dives set the tone for the biodiversity focus of the voyage, combining structure, reef growth, and schooling fish.
Kwatisore: Whale Shark Village
Day five of the itinerary is dedicated to Kwatisore, often referred to as the whale shark village. Diving and snorkeling activities take place in this area, where whale sharks are known to appear near traditional fishing platforms.
Encounters follow natural conditions and local guidelines. Sea conditions inside the bay are often calmer than open crossings, offering extended time in the water when wildlife presence allows.
Numfor, Rumberpon & Boomerang Atoll: Remote Reef Systems
Beyond the whale shark area, the route explores reef systems around Numfor, Rumberpon, Mioswar, Auri, and Boomerang Atoll. Days typically include up to three dive or snorkeling sessions, combined with island visits depending on conditions.
These locations are rarely included in standard itineraries and reflect the expedition theme of exploration, culture, and conservation.
Supiori & Biak: Final Exploration
The final section of the expedition includes diving, snorkeling, and island activities around Supiori and Biak before disembarkation on Day 10. The schedule may adjust depending on sea conditions throughout the voyage.
