The Pade Dive Resort
Pulau Weh sits at the very tip of Sumatra, a small island off Sabang that most travelers skip entirely. That is exactly the point. The Pade Dive Resort is based in Iboih village, right on the water, with wooden bungalows built close enough to the shore that you can hear the ocean from your bed.
The dive center is the heart of the operation. Weh Island is part of the Indian Ocean and sits at the convergence of currents that bring in pelagics, schooling fish, and healthy coral that has had far less pressure than the more visited sites in Indonesia. Whale sharks, barracuda, and turtles are regular sightings. The team handles everything from first dives to multi-tank days for experienced divers.
On land, the resort keeps it simple and comfortable. The pavilion is a good spot to watch the sun go down, and the garden connects the buildings to the beach. Breakfast is included and served halal. There is a yoga area, a shuttle to and from the city, and free parking for guests arriving by land.

Scuba Diving at Weh Island
Pulau Weh has around 20 named dive sites within a short boat ride of the resort, spread across the Andaman Sea side and the Indian Ocean side of the island. Visibility at the better sites regularly hits 20 to 30 metres, and water temperature holds between 26 and 29°C year-round. The dive center at The Pade handles equipment rental, boat scheduling, and guided dives. Open Water through Divemaster courses are available on-site.

The Canyon
The signature site on the west coast of Pulau Weh. Steep coral walls drop into a narrow channel to around 30 metres, with visibility often exceeding 30 metres on a good day. Currents run through during tidal changes, which concentrate fish along the walls. Best suited to divers comfortable with current.
Shark Plateau
A flat reef in the north that reliably draws reef sharks. Best dived when a current is running. No tricks, just reef sharks.
Rubiah Sea Garden
The beginner-friendly option: shallow, calm, accessible. Good for Open Water divers, check dives, and anyone who wants longer bottom time without current. The reef covers a wide area with varied coral and small reef life throughout.
Gapang House Reef
Right off the beach in front of the resort. A practical site for check dives, night dives, or days when you want a short, low-effort dive without taking a boat out.
Wrecks
Two significant wrecks are accessible from The Pade. The Sophie Rickmers is a German cargo freighter that went down in 1940, resting at around 30 metres with over 100 metres of structure, partially encrusted with coral. The Lucky Wreck sits closer to shore at a shallower depth, manageable for a wider range of divers.
Underwater Volcano
On the east side of the island, hydrothermal vents push through the seabed, creating a landscape of craters and lava formations at 10 to 30 metres. Best between May and September when conditions are most stable.
