Mount Agung is Bali’s highest and most sacred mountain, standing at 3,031 meters. This overnight trekking adventure takes you through forested trails and steep volcanic terrain to a high-altitude campsite, before a pre-dawn push to the summit for one of the most breathtaking sunrises in Indonesia. It’s a challenging journey, but one that rewards with panoramic views stretching from Lombok to Java.
All treks are guided by experienced local mountain guides who know the routes, rituals, and conditions of Agung. With proper preparation, reliable gear, and steady pacing, this becomes more than a hike – it’s an immersion into Bali’s spiritual heart.
What to Expect
This experience runs for approximately two days with an overnight camp. Pick-ups are arranged from Ubud (9:00 am), Canggu (8:00 am), or Uluwatu (8:00 am), with travel time to basecamp ranging from 1.5 to 2.5 hours. After a short rest stop and gear check at basecamp, the trek begins around midday.
Day 1 involves a steady climb through five checkpoints, reaching the campsite at Post 5 by late afternoon in time for sunset. Dinner is served at camp before an early rest. Wake-up is at 2:00 am, with coffee and snacks before setting off at 3:15 am for the summit push. The climb to the top takes about 2–2.5 hours, and you’ll arrive in time to watch the sun rise above Bali, Lombok, and the surrounding seas. After sunrise, you’ll descend back to camp for breakfast, pack up, and make the long hike back to basecamp, returning to your hotel by early afternoon.
The hike is demanding – expect long hours, steep sections, and cold temperatures near the summit. But the reward is standing on the highest point of Bali, with the island spread out below you in every direction.
