Villa Tokay
Villa Tokay Gili Air is a collection of eight private villas and four comfort rooms on Gili Air, one of the Gili Islands off the northwest coast of Lombok. Each unit is handcrafted from natural materials – bamboo, timber, and woven textures – and named after something from the natural world: The Leaf, The Wave, The Tide, The Pearl, The Shore, The Swell, and the Sunset Rooms. As a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH), Villa Tokay sits among the top private-villa properties in eastern Indonesia.
Getting to Gili Air takes around 10 minutes by private fast boat or 20 minutes by public boat from Lombok, or roughly two hours from Bali. Once you arrive, there are no motorbikes. You move around by bicycle or by the occasional horse-drawn carriage. Gili Air is the most lived-in of the three Gili Islands. Local warungs, dive centers, and beach cafes are all within easy walking distance from the property.
The resort sits within a tropical garden compound, a short walk from the beach. Villa Tokay Gili Air takes sustainability seriously. All units use locally sourced materials and eco-friendly bath products. Complimentary snorkeling gear is available to every guest, and with excellent snorkeling opportunities around the island. On-site, the property runs a full spa with traditional Balinese treatments and a poolside bar.
Villa Tokay offers a variety of accommodation styles, ranging from luxury private villas to comfortable guest rooms, with options suited to families, groups of friends, couples, and solo travelers. Our larger villas are ideal for families and groups, while several accommodations are designed for couples seeking privacy and relaxation. The private villas feature their own private pools, while The Wave and the Sunset Rooms share a spacious common pool area. Selected accommodations also include kitchen facilities.
The Accommodation
The Leaf

The Leaf is Villa Tokay’s signature villa for couples. The split-level design puts the living room and open kitchen on the ground floor. Upstairs, a day-bed and napping net sit above the private pool. The architecture is the standout here – the structure is shaped like a leaf and rises through the tree canopy.
At 150 square meters of interior space, the villa is generous but still feels personal. The bathroom is open to the garden: an outdoor rain shower and a freestanding bathtub overlook the greenery. The pool sits in direct sunlight for most of the day, and poolside loungers complete the outdoor area.
The Leaf works well for couples who want space to spread out. The kitchen makes longer stays practical, and the design is quiet enough to feel fully private.
The Swell

The Swell is the family option at Villa Tokay. It starts as a two-bedroom villa with a 60 square meter pool and a 150 square meter garden. However, it can expand to three or four bedrooms by adding Tide suites, each bringing its own pool and garden space. This makes it one of the most flexible villa options in the Gili Islands for larger groups.
The layout is built for long stays. Wide covered terraces, outdoor dining, and generous living areas make it easy for families to settle in. The pool is visible from the main living space, which matters when traveling with young children.
In the two-bedroom configuration, the villa already offers considerable space. As a three or four-bedroom setup, it rivals full resort blocks in terms of area – but retains the privacy and service of a boutique property.
The Shore

The Shore draws on traditional Balinese craftsmanship. Exposed timber, woven textures, and hand-carved details give this two-bedroom villa a warm character that sets it apart from the more contemporary design of The Leaf or The Swell.
The two bedrooms work well for two couples traveling together, or for families with older children who want a bit of separation. A private pool and garden sit outside, while the interior keeps things calm and relatively understated.
Guests who prefer a quieter, more traditional aesthetic will find The Shore fits that preference. The craftsmanship is the real draw here. Every detail feels considered rather than styled.
The Tide

The Tide is a one-bedroom suite designed for couples. The king-sized bedroom sits beneath a handcrafted bamboo ceiling and leads directly to a private infinity pool. The transition from bedroom to pool is immediate – there is no corridor or hallway in between.
A walk-through bathroom with a rain shower sits adjacent to the bedroom. Beyond the pool, an arcade-style open kitchen adds an architectural detail that the other suites don’t have. The Tide suits guests who want a compact but well-finished space with strong design character.
The Wave

The Wave is a single-level suite with full privacy. The layout keeps everything on one floor, which makes it accessible and easy to move through. An outdoor soaking tub and a semi-open shower sit in the garden. A built-in desk makes the suite workable for longer stays too. The Wave has access to the property’s spacious shared pool area.
The Wave has a more relaxed feel than The Tide. It suits couples looking for a quieter stay rather than a dramatic design statement. The outdoor bathing setup is the highlight – the tub sits in the garden and opens to the sky.
The Pearl

The Pearl is a two-story villa of 110 square meters, set within a private garden of 50 square meters. The villa features a private pool with sun loungers. The upper level offers a separate outdoor terrace, ideal as a morning coffee spot or afternoon retreat.
A king-sized bed can be arranged in the living room, making The Pearl a flexible choice for small families as well as couples.
The Sunset Room

Set within the resort’s gardens, our four Sunset Rooms offer an intimate escape designed with couples in mind. Each room spans two levels and opens onto a cosy private garden that guides you to your own patio. From here, you’re just steps away from Kai (our bar & restaurant) and the tranquil spa, making it effortless to drift between relaxation, dining, and indulgence.
