Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Makassar & Journey to Toraja
Upon arrival at Makassar Airport, you’ll be welcomed by your guide and depart on a scenic 9-hour drive to Toraja. Along the way, we’ll pass through areas of the Bugis tribe, where you can see traditional houses and beautiful views of ponds, the sea, and mountains. Lunch will be at a local restaurant in Pare Pare. Later, we’ll pause at Bamba Puang Valley for a refreshing view of Mount Nona. By early evening, we’ll arrive in Rantepao, Toraja, where you can check in at the hotel and enjoy a relaxing evening.
Note: The transfer to Toraja can also be done by plane from Makassar to Palopo (1 hour flight and 2 hour drive)
Day 2: Toraja Cultural Tour
Following breakfast, we’ll begin our tour of Toraja’s rich heritage sites. First, we’ll visit the cliffside stone graves at Lemo, followed by the baby graves in a tree at Pote, the royal graves at Suaya, and the ancient burial cave at Tampangallo. Lunch will be at a local restaurant. The afternoon will take us to traditional villages in Tumbangdatu, Karuaya, and Kete. We’ll return to the hotel in the evening, where you’ll have free time to relax.
Day 3: Markets, Mountains & Village Life
In the morning, we’ll start with a visit to Bolu’s bustling buffalo and pig market, followed by the ancient megaliths at Bori and the traditional village of Palawa. We’ll then head into the mountains for views of rice terraces, bamboo forests, and coffee plantations, with lunch at a scenic restaurant perched at 1,350 meters. Afterward, we’ll stroll through villages and rice fields to experience local life, before returning to the hotel.
Day 4: Hiking Through Villages & Landscapes
We begin the day with a trip into the mountains, where we’ll hike through villages, passing coffee and cocoa plantations, bamboo groves, and rice terraces. Afterward, we’ll take a break for lunch at a local restaurant. The afternoon continues with more exploration, as we enjoy views of karst rock formations, rice fields, and village life before returning to the hotel.
Day 5: Return to Makassar
After breakfast, we’ll check out and make our way back to Makassar Airport for your onward flight, marking the end of our tour.
