Destination Highlights
Raja Ampat: The Four Kings of the Coral Triangle
Raja Ampat means “Four Kings” in Indonesian, named after its four main islands: Waigeo, Batanta, Salawati, and Misool. This archipelago of 1,500+ islands sits at the heart of the Coral Triangle, home to over 500 coral species and thousands of fish species. Deep ocean currents deliver nutrients to shallow waters, creating one of the world’s most biodiverse marine ecosystems.
Misool: Southern Marine Sanctuary
Expect breathtaking underwater landscapes and thriving marine life. You’ll explore coral walls, pristine coral gardens, underwater pinnacles, and schools of fish. The real treasure here is the walking shark (epaulette shark), a nocturnal species that moves across the reef using its fins. Much of Misool is protected as a marine park, established with local communities to conserve the reef and prevent fishing.
Penemu: Lagoons and Wide-Angle Heaven
Penemu is famous for its postcard-perfect viewpoint overlooking a maze of turquoise lagoons and limestone islets. A short hike brings you to one of Raja Ampat’s most iconic views. Below the surface, spectacular reef dives feature hard coral ridges, swift currents, and vibrant reef fish — a favourite spot for wide-angle photographers.
Dampier Strait: Where Big Fish Gather
Located between Waigeo and Batanta, Dampier Strait brings strong currents loaded with nutrients. This attracts large marine life: giant trevallies, yellowfin tuna, rainbow runners, blacktip and whitetip reef sharks, grey reef sharks. Remarkably, this is one of the few places on Earth where both species of manta rays can be seen on the same dive.
