Awera Resort Mentawai
Awera Resort is a small resort of private pool villas on Awera Island, in the Mentawai Islands off the west coast of Sumatra. Most guests come for the surf, with three breaks in the resort’s own bay. Since 2026 they can also dive: Awera added SSI courses and guided dives on reefs that see very few divers.
Rates are per person per night. They include three à la carte meals a day, coffee, tea and water, and two yoga classes a day. Snorkelling gear and paddleboards are free to use in front of the resort, and each villa has its own infinity pool.
Diving

The resort’s dive team has mapped 32 sites around four islands: Awera, Silabok, Siburu and Sipora. Level 1 sites are sheltered and shallow, with little or no current, which suits beginners. Level 2 sites face the open ocean, with deeper profiles and strong currents, for experienced divers. Awera lists manta rays, turtles, Napoleon wrasse and barracuda among the sightings so far, along with macro life. The team chooses the sites each day by weather, tide and swell.
Awera says it is the first resort in the Mentawai Islands to offer scuba diving. Courses follow SSI. The prices below include equipment, tax and service:
- Fun dives for certified divers, with equipment: IDR 1,750,000 per person per dive (about USD 95, EUR 85)
- Try Scuba, pool only, half a day: IDR 1,750,000 (about USD 95, EUR 85)
- SSI Open Water Diver, 4 days: IDR 8,830,000 (about USD 490, EUR 435)
- SSI Advanced Adventurer, 5 dives: IDR 8,080,000 (about USD 450, EUR 400)
Surfing

There are three breaks in the bay in front of the resort. The resort boats also run surfers to more than ten others nearby, chosen each day by wind, tide and swell. The beginner wave is a few metres from the restaurant.
- Surf guide package, 2 to 3 boat sessions a day, booked ahead: USD 90 (about EUR 80, IDR 1.6 million) per person per day
- Group surf lesson, about 2 hours, 2 to 4 people: USD 95 per person (about EUR 85, IDR 1.7 million)
- Private surf coaching: USD 120 per person (about EUR 105, IDR 2.2 million)

Two yoga classes a day are included, one in the morning and one in the evening, open to all levels. The spa offers massages and treatments, and there is a thermal pool.
