Abizar

Abizar is a 25-metre wooden phinisi built in 2019, sailing Komodo National Park out of Labuan Bajo on private charters of one to five days. Four cabins for up to 10 guests, or 12 with extra beds, so the whole boat is yours.

The boat

She is a traditional wooden phinisi, 25 metres long with a 5-metre beam, two masts and a Mitsubishi engine that cruises at 6 to 9 knots. A crew of five runs the boat, and a small dinghy with a 15 hp outboard takes guests ashore. There is an indoor saloon with sofas and a dining table, a covered deck lounge, and a sun deck with loungers and bean bags. Snorkelling gear and a paddleboard are on board.

The cabins

Four cabins, all with air conditioning.

• Master cabin: a double bed, a sea view, its own bathroom and a private balcony.
• Private cabin: a double bed with a sea view and its own bathroom.
• Superior cabin: a double bed.
• Sharing cabin: several beds in one cabin, for friends or children travelling with the group.

Itineraries

• Day 1: Kelor island for the short climb to the viewpoint, snorkelling at Manjarite, then Kalong at dusk, when the flying foxes leave the mangroves.
• Day 2: the walk up Padar, Pink Beach, the Komodo dragons with a park ranger on Komodo island, then Taka Makassar and Manta Point, where mantas are often seen but never certain.
• Day 3: a last snorkel at Sebayur or Kanawa, then back to Labuan Bajo.

That is the three-day charter route. Shorter and longer charters use the same sites, the four-day version adding Tatawa Besar and Siaba for more snorkelling, and the crew adjusts the plan to the group.

Prices are for the whole boat and depend on the size of the group.

• Day trip: IDR 42,900,000 (about USD 2,385 or EUR 2,095) for 1 to 5 guests.
• 2 days, 1 night: IDR 41,800,000 (about USD 2,325 or EUR 2,045) for 1 to 5 guests, IDR 47,800,000 (about USD 2,660 or EUR 2,335) for 6 to 10.
• 3 days, 2 nights: IDR 50,200,000 (about USD 2,790 or EUR 2,455) for 1 to 5 guests, IDR 53,900,000 (about USD 2,995 or EUR 2,635) for 6 to 10.
• 4 days, 3 nights: IDR 56,300,000 (about USD 3,130 or EUR 2,750) for 1 to 5 guests, IDR 63,500,000 (about USD 3,530 or EUR 3,105) for 6 to 10.
• 5 days, 4 nights: IDR 64,200,000 (about USD 3,570 or EUR 3,140) for 1 to 5 guests, IDR 71,500,000 (about USD 3,975 or EUR 3,495) for 6 to 10.
• Up to two more guests can join with extra beds, from IDR 2,500,000 (about USD 140 or EUR 120) each on a two-day trip.

What is included, and what is not

• Included: hotel or airport transfers in Labuan Bajo, three meals a day, drinking water, tea, coffee, an afternoon snack and juice, snorkelling gear, the paddleboard, an English-speaking guide and wifi.
• Not included: Komodo National Park fees, paid separately, flights, hotels in Labuan Bajo, travel insurance, drinks beyond those above, and tips for the crew.
• A photographer or drone footage can be added at extra cost.

Who she suits

Families and groups of friends who want a traditional wooden phinisi to themselves for a Komodo trip, with a private cabin for each couple and the sharing cabin for the rest. Abizar is a cruising and snorkelling boat, not a dive boat. Ask us for dates.
