About diving in Banda Sea
The Banda Sea is only dived in two short windows, September to November and March to April. Outside them the sea is rough and few boats go. What you come for is open-ocean diving around volcanic islands: steep walls, schooling fish and, in season, a chance of hammerheads. There are sea snakes at Pulau Manuk and mandarinfish at dusk under the Banda Neira jetty, and Banda Neira itself, the old nutmeg capital, is worth a walk. Trips run seven to eleven nights, mostly from Ambon, with crossings to Sorong and Alor.
