Whaleshark Snorkeling Trip in Sumbawa
Swimming with whale sharks is one of Indonesia’s most unforgettable wildlife experiences, and Sumbawa is one of the best places to experience it. From May to November, whale sharks regularly gather near the “bagangs in the Saleh Bay near Labuhan Jambu in the Tarano district. These traditional fishing platforms attract schools of small fish, creating the perfect feeding ground for these gentle giants, which are often seen cruising just below the surface.
This day trip gives you the rare opportunity to swim alongside the world’s largest fish in their natural habitat and create memories you’ll never forget.
Itinerary
- 04:00 AM – Depart from Labuhan Jambu by traditional boat to Bagang (Whale Shark Point). The journey takes approximately 1 hour.
- 05:00 AM – Arrive at Bagang. Your guide will help you enter the water safely once whale sharks are spotted.
- 05:00–08:00 AM – Enjoy snorkeling with whale sharks. The clear, shallow waters provide excellent visibility, allowing you to observe these gentle giants in their natural habitat. Since whale sharks are harmless filter feeders, they are generally comfortable around snorkelers, giving you plenty of opportunities for photos and videos.

- 09:00 AM – Arrive back at Labuhan Jambu.
