Blue EmOcean Eco Resort

Blue EmOcean Eco Resort is a six-room dive resort on the beach at Moyo Island, a protected nature reserve off the north coast of Sumbawa.

Solar panels supply most of the power and the water comes from a well on site. The resort has a pool with sun beds, a garden with hammocks and a private jetty that leads straight to the house reef. Every stay includes breakfast and snorkeling gear for the jetty and house reef.

Rooms

Deluxe Room: built with recycled and renewable materials, with a queen bed or twin beds, air conditioning, a hot shower and a garden view. It sleeps up to three with an extra bed.

Standard Room: decorated with batik made on Moyo Island, with air conditioning, a hot shower and a garden view. It sleeps up to three, so it suits families and friends.

Sea View Duplex Bungalow: a wooden bungalow on two floors for up to four guests, open from May to August. The mezzanine has a double bed and a balcony facing the sea. Downstairs there is a lounge, a single bed and a sofa bed, and the bathroom has an outdoor-style shower.

Diving

The dive center runs from the private jetty. Boats leave between 8am and 10am, depending on the tide, for two or three dives with a coffee break. The dive sites sit 10 to 30 minutes away, and the team can arrange longer trips to Satonda Island and Medang Island.

Groups are small and matched by experience. Equipment is included with every dive. You can also shore dive on the house reef or book a night dive. First-time divers can try a discovery dive or take an Open Water course in calm, sheltered sites.

Food

The six-sided restaurant stands a few meters from the jetty and opens onto the sea, the garden and the pool. The kitchen cooks Indonesian and international dishes, with vegetarian and vegan choices. Fish is caught daily around the island, and much of the fruit and vegetables come from the resort garden or local growers.

Activities

Beyond the reef, you can hike to the waterfalls of Moyo Island, spend a day at Satonda Island or head out to look for dolphins. Whale shark tours run from October to March.

Getting there

Fly from Bali or Lombok to Sumbawa Besar, then cross to Moyo Island by speed boat in about 50 minutes. A public boat also leaves Sumbawa Besar daily at 1pm and takes about two and a half hours.
