About SMY Ondina

View full boat page →

SMY Ondina is a traditional Phinisi running dive cruises in eastern Indonesia, with 8 air-conditioned cabins and routes out of Sorong.

The History of SMY Ondina

SMY Ondina was launched in 2001, built by Bugis boatbuilders using traditional methods and tropical timbers. She was tailor-made by a diver, so the layout was planned around diving from the start.

Living on Board

SMY Ondina takes 16 passengers in 8 double air-conditioned cabins, each with an ensuite bathroom. Two cabins on the foredeck have twin single bunks, and the other six have a double bed with a single bunk above. Three gensets supply 220V power through two-pin European sockets.

SMY Ondina Operational Routes

The boat is based in Sorong and runs routes to Raja Ampat, Cenderawasih Bay, Komodo, the North Banda Sea, Triton Bay and Halmahera.

The Diving Experience

Diving is usually from the tenders. Divers should hold an advanced certification or have at least 50 logged dives. The crew assess experience levels and plan the dives accordingly. Some dives run strong currents, so individual experience matters for the safety of the whole group.

On an average day, there are usually 3 or 4 dives scheduled. Night dives are offered almost every day, unless conditions or long sailing distances prevent them. Upon arrival, there is a check dive in the afternoon followed by a night dive. On the last day, two morning dives are scheduled to allow for desaturation before departing the following day.

Diving tanks and weights are provided for divers, while snorkeling gear and an introductory dive are available for non-divers.
