Amalia

Amalia is the liveaboard of Uber Scuba Komodo, a dive centre in Labuan Bajo. She is a 29 m boat for 11 guests in 5 cabins, with a crew of 8 to 10. She runs diving trips of 3 to 6 nights in Komodo National Park. The route follows the season. From April to late November she dives Central and North Komodo. From December to March she goes south, where the day boats rarely reach.

The pace is deliberately easy for a dive trip. Amalia does 3 dives a day, sometimes 4. Between them come a dragon walk, the hike up Padar and an afternoon on a beach with the stand-up paddleboards. The chef adjusts meals for allergies and intolerances if you tell us before the trip. Towels, shampoo and shower gel are on board.

The main deck holds the dive deck, the indoor saloon, the open kitchen and an outdoor dining area. The sun deck and the bridge are upstairs, and the guest cabins are on the lower deck.

The cabins

The 5 guest cabins share the lower deck. Two bathrooms are private and one is shared. Every cabin is cooled by natural ventilation and its own fan, with no air conditioning, and has a charging point and a night light.

• Double en-suite cabin: a double bed for 2, a private bathroom and an internal entrance.
• Twin cabin: two single beds for 1 or 2 guests, with the shared bathroom. It comes in two sizes, a bunk-bed twin and a larger twin.
• Family or friends cabin: a single bed and a double bed for 2 or 3 guests, with the shared bathroom. It is priced for three.

Dive requirements

Every diver on Amalia needs at least an Adventure Deep dive, because sites such as Batu Bolong and Castle Rock go below 18 m. Open Water divers can take it on board, as a single adventure dive or as the full SSI Advanced Adventurer course, for an extra fee we confirm with your quote. Night dives need an Adventure Night dive, done before or on board, or you can skip them. If you have not dived for more than a year, a scuba refresh is included.

Itineraries

Amalia sails from Labuan Bajo. Uber Scuba picks the best sites of the season from the lists below, and every trip includes the dragons and the Padar hike. The last day has 2 dives, so book your flight for the day after: you need 18 hours before flying.

3 nights | 11 dives | North or South Komodo

• North, April to November: Castle Rock, Crystal Rock, The Cauldron, Golden Passage, Mauan, Manta Point, Batu Bolong, Tatawa Besar and Kecil, Siaba Besar and Kecil, Police Corner.
• South, December to March: Pillarsteen, 3 Sisters, Cannibal Rock, Yellow Wall, Eagle Rock, Secret Garden, Mauan, Manta Point, Batu Bolong, Tatawa Besar, Siaba Besar.
• One night dive. On land: Komodo dragons, Pink Beach and the Padar hike.

4 nights | 15 dives | South and Central Komodo

• Pillarsteen, 3 Sisters, Cannibal Rock, Yellow Wall, Eagle Rock, Secret Garden, Mauan, Manta Point, Batu Bolong, Tatawa Besar, Siaba Besar, Pengah, Wainilu.
• Two night dives. On land: Komodo dragons, a beach sunset and the Padar hike.

5 nights | 18 dives | Central and South Komodo

• Pillarsteen, 3 Sisters, Cannibal Rock, Yellow Wall, Eagle Rock, Secret Garden, Mauan, Manta Point, Batu Bolong, Tatawa Besar, Siaba Besar, The Arch.
• Two night dives. On land: Komodo dragons, Pink Beach and the Padar hike.

6 nights | 18 to 22 dives | Central with North or South Komodo

• North: Castle Rock, Crystal Rock, The Cauldron or Shotgun, Spanish Slope, Golden Passage, The Lighthouse, Police Corner, Boulders, Mauan, Manta Point, Batu Bolong, Tatawa Besar, Siaba Besar.
• South: Pillarsteen, 3 Sisters, Cannibal Rock, Yellow Wall, Eagle Rock, Secret Garden, Police Corner, Boulders, Mauan, Manta Point, Batu Bolong, Tatawa Besar, Siaba Besar.
• Two or three night dives. On land: Komodo dragons, Pink Beach and the Padar hike.
