Kai Voyage

Kai Voyage is a 33 metre phinisi that launched in 2026, sailing Komodo National Park with six cabins and up to 18 guests.

She was built by hand in Ara, South Sulawesi, where the boatyards have been shaping wooden hulls the same way for generations.

Five of the six cabins are private. The sixth, the Quad Deluxe on the lower deck, has four single beds and can be taken as a whole room or booked bed by bed, which makes it the cheapest way on board. The three staterooms on the upper deck each open onto their own balcony. Every cabin has air conditioning, an en-suite bathroom with hot water and room for luggage.

The main deck holds the dining saloon, an outdoor bar, the stern lounge and a daybed out on the bowsprit. Above it, the roof top has sunbeds and a sofa lounge. Starlink keeps the wifi running between islands, and there is a projector, a karaoke set and board games for the evenings.

Open trips run three days and two nights out of Labuan Bajo, Monday to Wednesday and Friday to Sunday, boarding at 11:00 and back at 15:00. Snorkelling gear, a stand-up paddleboard, hotel transfers and an onboard photographer are included.

Embark: Labuan Bajo · Disembark: Labuan Bajo

Day 1 | Rinca, Waelilu, Kalong

Board at 11.00 in Labuan Bajo and sail for Rinca, where rangers lead the walk to find Komodo dragons in their own territory. On to Waelilu, then anchor off Kalong for the evening: at dusk thousands of flying foxes lift off the mangroves and cross the channel overhead. Lunch and dinner on board.

Day 2 | Padar, Long Beach, Gili Lawa

Early start for the climb up Padar, which is worth the dark: the three bays open below you as the light arrives. Down to the Long Beach afterwards, then north to Gili Lawa for the sunset ridge walk. Breakfast, lunch and dinner on board.

Day 3 | Taka Makassar, Manta Point, Mawan

Taka Makassar first, a curve of sand that appears and disappears with the tide, then Manta Point, where reef mantas come in to feed on the current. April to November is the window, best from June to September, and even then they are wild animals. A last stop at Mawan before turning back for Labuan Bajo, arriving between 14.00 and 15.00. Breakfast and lunch on board.
