Orangutan Expedition in Bukit Lawang

Sumatra is one of only two places on Earth where you can see wild orangutans. The other is Tanjung Puting, Borneo. About 100 kilometers northwest of Medan lies Bukit Lawang, a riverside town on the edge of Mount Leuser National Park. The park is UNESCO listed for its biodiversity and covers over 7,927 square kilometers.

Bukit Lawang is known for its orangutan rehabilitation center, and is the starting point for treks into Mount Leuser National Park.

Itinerary

The expedition runs 2 to 4 days, depending on how deep into the forest you want to go.

2 Days / 1 Night

Day 1: Explore the Rainforest

05:30 PM: Return to the campsite, where you will spend the evening. Enjoy a hearty dinner and relax by the campfire, surrounded by the sounds of the jungle.
07:00 PM: Engage in storytelling around the campfire, where you can learn about local legends and share your own stories.

Day 2: Explore the Jungle & River Adventure

08:00 AM: Set out on a morning jungle trek to discover more of the rainforest’s wonders.
12:00 PM: Return to the camp for a final lunch in the jungle.
01:00 PM: Spend some time by Sungai Bahorok, playing and waiting for the traditional rafting (jungle taxi) to pick up.

04:00 PM: Arrive at the lower part of the jungle, where your guide will accompany you back to your hotel.
