Moyo Island Day Trip: Mata Jitu Waterfall by Private Speedboat

Moyo Island lies off the north coast of Sumbawa, inside Moyo Satonda National Park. Its best-known sight is Mata Jitu, a waterfall that drops over pale limestone into a chain of turquoise pools in the forest. Diana, Princess of Wales, visited it in 1993 (Wikipedia).

This is a private trip: your own speedboat and guide for the day, from Pelabuhan Goa near Sumbawa Besar to the falls and back. You choose the start time, and the day runs at your pace.

Itinerary

• Morning (you set the time): meet your guide at Pelabuhan Goa (also known as Pelabuhan Pantai Goa) and cross to Labuan Aji, the main village on Moyo, by private speedboat. The crossing takes about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the sea.
• Labuan Aji to Mata Jitu: about 20 minutes inland by ojek (motorbike taxi) on a rough track, then a short walk through the forest.
• At the falls: swim in the pools where the water is calm, and take your time. An early start means you reach the pools before most other visitors.
• Lunch: at Bale Seafood on Moyo, about IDR 150,000 per person, paid there.
• Afternoon: ojek back to Labuan Aji and the speedboat back to Pelabuhan Goa. Or stay the night on Moyo and return the next day.

The price includes the car from Sumbawa Airport (SWQ) to Pelabuhan Goa and back, IDR 350,000 / USD 20 / EUR 15 per car each way. One car takes up to 4 people, so groups of 5 to 7 travel in two cars.

Paid per person on top of the boat

• Entrance ticket: IDR 150,000 / USD 10 / EUR 5 per person
• Ojek to Mata Jitu and back: IDR 150,000 / USD 10 / EUR 5 per person

For example, two people pay IDR 5,300,000 for the boat, guide and transfers, plus IDR 600,000 for tickets and ojek, IDR 5,900,000 in total.

We invoice in Indonesian rupiah. The USD and EUR prices are a guide only, converted at the 24 October 2026 rate.

Stay the night on Moyo

If you would rather not rush back, spend the night on Moyo. The speedboat back the next day is included in the trip price. A night on the island lets you reach Mata Jitu early, before the day boats arrive from the mainland. Moyo has no ATM, so bring the cash you need from Sumbawa Besar. We work with three places there, so we can match your budget and whichever has rooms free. Some of the hotel prices below are 2025 rates, and we confirm the current price when you book.

Maryan Moyo Bungalows & Resto

Simple wooden bungalows with air conditioning, and a restaurant and bar on stilts. IDR 850,000 / USD 45 / EUR 40 per room per night, for two people with breakfast. See it on Google Maps.

Maleo Moyo

A hotel and dive resort next door to Maryan, with a pool and dive packages. Prices per room per night:

• Ocean View Deluxe Bungalow, with breakfast: IDR 1,600,000 to 1,800,000 / USD 90 to 100 / EUR 80 to 90, depending on the season

A row of blue bungalows on the beach, each with a private bathroom and a sea-view balcony. Prices per room per night: IDR 445,000 / USD 25 / EUR 20 for a double with a fan, IDR 600,000 / USD 35 / EUR 30 for a double or twin with air conditioning. Getting there

The trip starts in Sumbawa Besar. Wings Air flies there from Bali in about an hour. From Lombok you can fly, or take the public ferry from Kayangan to Poto Tano and continue by road. We can arrange your transfers and a hotel in Sumbawa Besar for the night before.

Best time to visit

• March to December: the trip runs.
• January and February: no trips. The sea is too rough for the crossing.

Tip: wear sandals or shoes with grip for the wet limestone, and bring a dry bag for your phone on the boat.
