Magia 2

Magia II is a 26-metre teak motor yacht for ten guests in four en-suite cabins, sold as a private charter with a crew of ten, a chef and a cruise director. She follows the seasons around eastern Indonesia: Komodo, Sumbawa and Saleh Bay from June to October, the Banda Sea, Raja Ampat and Triton Bay from November to March, and the Banggai Islands and Wakatobi in March to May.

She was built in 2019 on the beach at Bulukumba in South Sulawesi, from teak and ironwood, by the same shipwrights who build the phinisi, but she is not a phinisi. Her owners drew her on the lines of a 1960s European gentleman’s yacht and named her after the family’s sailing yacht Magia in Italy, and the result is a low, long motor yacht with a varnished hull, a covered upper deck and no sails. What sets her apart is the interior: English silverware, French wallpaper, Italian lamps, framed photographs and paintings collected by the owners, and cabins finished in white and warm teak rather than the dark wood of most Indonesian boats.

The boat

Four cabins, ten guests, every cabin air-conditioned with its own bathroom. The master suite sits aft on the main deck with windows on three sides, a king bed, a sitting area and a writing desk, a walk-in wardrobe, twin basins, a separate toilet and a rain shower, and its own terrace over the stern with a two-person jacuzzi. Below deck the VIP suite has a king bed and two singles, so it takes a couple or a family of four, plus a sitting area, a desk and a separate shower and toilet. The two guest suites each have a queen bed, a sitting corner, a desk and an en-suite shower. Mattresses, goose-feather pillows and bathroom products are the hotel kind.

The main-deck saloon has the dining table, a library and a daybed. The upper deck is where the days are spent: a bar, an outdoor dining table, and at the bow an oversized sultan daybed big enough for the whole party, with two king-size sunbeds forward. Starlink wifi runs throughout the trip. The chef cooks Asian fusion and Western food from local produce, and dinner is often set up on a beach with lanterns and a fire when the anchorage allows.

Diving for certified divers is part of the charter, with tanks and weights on board and local dive guides on the routes that call for them. Tell us your certification and the gear you travel with and we confirm the compressor, tank count and guide arrangement with the operator before you book. Snorkelling gear, kayaks and the other water toys are included. She runs at 8 to 10 knots on the crossings, faster than a phinisi, which matters on the longer routes.

Itineraries

Magia II is charter only: there are no shared departures, you take the whole boat and the route is built around your party. The year is split into three seasons, each with its own base port.

Komodo, Sumbawa and Saleh Bay, June to October

Out of Labuan Bajo for the Komodo National Park week: the dragons on Komodo and Rinca, the Padar viewpoint, the manta stations at Karang Makassar, Batu Bolong and the northern sites when the current allows, with beach dinners in the sheltered bays. Longer charters continue west along Sumbawa to Saleh Bay for the whale sharks that gather under the fishing platforms, or take in the surf and volcano coast on the way.

Banda Sea, Raja Ampat and Triton Bay, November to March

The boat moves east for the northwest monsoon. Raja Ampat from Sorong or Waisai is the core of the season: the Dampier Strait, Penemu and Wayag’s lagoons in the north, Misool’s rock islands and reefs in the south, village visits and the bird-of-paradise walks on Waigeo. Triton Bay near Kaimana adds whale sharks under the bagans and reefs few boats reach. The Banda Islands, with Banda Neira’s forts, nutmeg groves and the lava-flow reef under Gunung Api, are on the route between Ambon and Raja Ampat and can be a charter on their own.

Banggai Islands and Wakatobi, Sulawesi, March to May

The shoulder season goes to Sulawesi: the Banggai archipelago in the Tomini Gulf, with its limestone islets, caves and the reefs that hold the Banggai cardinalfish found nowhere else, and Wakatobi’s walls in the southeast, some of the healthiest hard coral in the country. Quiet water, empty anchorages and long days on the reef.

A relocation charge applies when the boat has to steam between regions to meet you, and the operator adds a surcharge over the major international holidays. Custom routes, one-way trips and combinations of two regions are all possible. Ask us and we build the week with the crew.

Rates 2027

• Komodo, Sumbawa and Saleh Bay, June to October: USD 7,000 per night for the whole boat (about IDR 123,365,000 or EUR 6,035), which is USD 700 per person per night with ten guests.
• Banda Sea, Raja Ampat and Triton Bay, November to March: USD 8,000 per night (about IDR 140,990,000 or EUR 6,900).
• Banggai Islands and Wakatobi, March to May: USD 7,200 per night (about IDR 126,890,000 or EUR 6,210).
• Relocation between regions: USD 4,500 per day (about IDR 79,305,000 or EUR 3,880). Government tax of 11 percent is added to every rate.
• Included: the crew of ten with cruise director and chef, three meals a day plus fruit and snacks, drinking water, soft drinks, juices, tea and coffee, Starlink wifi, all excursions on the itinerary, diving for certified divers, use of the water sports gear, local airport transfers, fuel, harbour and national park fees.
• Not included: flights, dive courses, wine and spirits, unscheduled excursions, visas and airport taxes, travel and dive insurance (compulsory), and the crew tip, which is at your discretion.
• Booking: 50 percent deposit to confirm, paid at least 90 days before departure, balance 60 days before. Cancellation keeps 50 percent from 90 days out, 75 percent from 89 to 61 days, and the full amount from 60 days.

Who she suits

A family or two couples who want a private boat with a real chef and a proper master suite, and who care as much about the evenings on deck as the dives. Ten guests in four cabins means the VIP suite has to take a family or friends who are happy to share. For four couples she is generous, for ten adults she is full. Divers get the same reefs as the dive liveaboards at a slower pace, with two dives a day the usual rhythm rather than four, and non-divers have the kayaks, the beaches and the villages.
