4 Days Lombok to Komodo Liveaboard Cruise

4 Days Lombok to Komodo Liveaboard Cruise

Planning a trip between Lombok and Komodo? A four day liveaboard cruise is the way to get there. You’ll spend four days island hopping through Lombok, Sumbawa, and Komodo itself, where you’ll trek face to face with the dragons on their own turf.

Between the hikes, there’s Saleh Bay’s whale sharks, Padar Island’s sunset, and some of the region’s best snorkeling at Manjarite and Kelor Island. The liveaboard style means you see more and move efficiently, without burning days on ferries. You dive the reefs, trek the islands, and recover onboard with fresh meals and ocean views. Komodo is the main draw, but the journey there is just as good.

Three boats currently run this crossing: Al Fatran 3, Lady Grace, and Sukha Sail. Each has its own style and price point, full details further down this page.

Itinerary

Please note that the itineraries are subject to changes depending on weather and sea conditions. The captain and his crew will do their best for you to have a great and safe trip.

Each boat runs its own version of this crossing, but the headline stops are more or less the same across all three: the grasslands of Kenawa Island for sweeping views of Mount Rinjani, whale sharks at sunrise in Saleh Bay, the steep climb up Padar Island for its three-bay viewpoint, the pink sand of Pink Beach, reef mantas at Manta Point, Komodo dragons on their home turf, and a short climb up Kelor Island for the Flores coastline view.

A condensed itinerary for each boat is listed in the Our Boats section below, alongside cabin pricing and photos.

Our Boats

We run two tiers on this route. Superior is Al Fatran 3, solid comfort at a lower price point. Deluxe is Lady Grace and Sukha Sail, both with air-conditioned ensuite cabins and a higher level of onboard service. All three run the same core route between Lombok and Komodo National Park.

Superior: Al Fatran 3

A traditional wooden Phinisi with a large sundeck, bean bags, and an onboard jacuzzi. Al Fatran 3 has 12 cabins and 11 bathrooms, built for group trips of up to 50 guests, and blends comfort with old-school Phinisi charm.

Best Time to Sail between Lombok and Komodo

These trips are only available between March and November, during the dry season, which is the best time to sail. This period offers calm seas, clear skies, and excellent visibility for diving and snorkeling. The weather is typically sunny and warm, making it ideal for exploring the islands and enjoying outdoor activities. Peak months are between June and September, when conditions are at their best. The winds can be strong in July and August.

Sea Journey Realities

Before you book, here’s what this route actually involves. The four day Lombok-Sumbawa-Komodo cruise is a long haul sea voyage with extended open ocean transit, and the Sumbawa to Komodo crossing in particular is a multi hour leg across exposed water. If you’re sensitive to motion sickness, plan ahead with medication. The trade off of covering this much distance is that your actual time inside Komodo National Park is limited compared to dedicated park cruises.

If maximizing park time matters more to you than the wider Lesser Sunda route, consider our dedicated 3-day Komodo liveaboard cruise instead. It departs from Labuan Bajo, skips the long Sumbawa transit entirely, and gives you more hours inside the park visiting Padar, Pink Beach, Manta Point, and the dragons on Komodo and Rinca.

The Saleh Bay whale shark stop is one of the headline experiences on this itinerary, but set expectations correctly: this is a working fishing area where whale sharks gather around local bagangs (wooden fishing platforms), and it draws boats from across the region. Expect a shared environment with other travelers in the water, not a private swim. If the whale sharks are your main reason for booking, our 3-day Sumbawa whale shark trip is the better fit. It’s built around them, with early-morning entries and more time at the bagangs.
