Sukha Sail cruises between Lombok and Labuan Bajo, taking in the Komodo islands on the way.

The route runs between Lombok and Labuan Bajo, stopping at quiet beaches and reefs along the way. It takes in the Komodo dragons, the walk up to the Padar Island viewpoints, snorkelling with manta rays at Manta Point, Pink Beach, and whale sharks in Saleh Bay.

The Sukha Sail is a handcrafted wooden boat measuring 34 meters long and 7 meters wide, designed in the traditional South Sulawesi style. There are cabins below, lounge space on deck and local food cooked fresh on board. The crew handle the sailing and the safety side. The boat suits solo travellers, couples and groups of friends.

The trip

4 days from Labuan Bajo back to Lombok. Two days in Komodo National Park, then whale sharks and Gili Bedil, and a last stop on Kenawa before East Lombok.

The operator notes that the itinerary may change according to weather conditions.

Day 1

Pick-up at 9 am from the airport or your hotel in Labuan Bajo. Manta Point, where mantas often gather but come and go with season and current, and Taka Makassar, a sandbank in the middle of the park. A guided trek on Komodo Island to look for Komodo dragons in the wild, then Padar Island.

Day 2

Pink Beach, with its pink-tinted sand.

Day 3

Whaleshark Point, where whale sharks come to feed close to the fishermen's platforms. They are wild animals, so a sighting is never guaranteed. Then Gili Bedil.

Day 4

Kenawa, a small grassy island off Sumbawa's west coast, then Kayangan Harbour. Drop-off at 1 pm at the airport, Kuta, Senggigi or Bangsal harbour.
