Ocean Earth Travels

Sequoia

Sequoia is a 30-metre luxury wooden motor-sailing yacht built for private charter across Indonesia. Three suites for just six guests, a crew of twelve, a PADI dive centre on board, and an all-inclusive rate that covers everything from the diving to the wine. She sails the Coral Triangle year round, with Raja Ampat and Komodo at the heart of her range.

The yacht

Handbuilt in 2017 and fully refit in 2025, Sequoia is a solid all-wood vessel in the Indonesian phinisi tradition, her hull formed by the carvel planking technique recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. Ironwood and teak throughout, finished in a deep Awlwood varnish, with interiors inspired by a cosy Swiss chalet: Indonesian fine art, Perennials fabrics and fresh tropical flowers. She runs on a John Deere marine diesel with auxiliary Doyle sails, and is built to USCG and ABYC standards.

Life on Sequoia happens across two outdoor decks. The 60 m² Sky Deck opens a 270-degree view over the water, made for sundowners, open-air dinners and cinema nights on cushioned beds. Below it, the 34 m² Great Room is a semi-open lounge that can be closed off behind twenty handcrafted teak-louvered doors for a dive briefing or a quiet meal, while the Tender Bar serves fresh coffee, cocktails and drinks at any hour. A library off the Sky Suite holds a collection of coffee-table books and doubles as a calm corner for tea, reading or working.

The suites

Sequoia sleeps six in three air-conditioned suites, each with a super king bed (two convert to twins), a working desk, a Marshall speaker and a Caesarstone en-suite with Axor fixtures. Tempur-Pedic mattresses, Belgian linens and Pima cotton come as standard.

Sky Suite

The private Sky Suite sits on the upper deck, 20 m², connected to the library and the Sky Deck. The most secluded room on board.

Island Suite

On the main deck, the 20 m² Island Suite has a super king bed that converts to twins, ideal for families or friends.

Ocean Suite

Also on the main deck, the 18 m² Ocean Suite converts to twins or a spa suite, flexible for couples or as a treatment space.

Diving with Sequoia

Sequoia carries a full PADI dive centre and two professionally trained instructors, set up for everyone from first-timers to seasoned divers. Gear includes a Bauer compressor, ten AquaLung sets (kids’ sizes included), twenty Luxfer tanks in 9 and 12 litre, dive computers, SMBs and torches. Two tenders, a 7 m Boston Whaler and a 5 m Tracker, run divers out to remote sites and back.

Courses run on board for all levels and ages: Discover Scuba Diving for first-timers, the Bubblemaker programme for children aged 8 and up, PADI courses from age 10, and the ReActivate refresher for divers easing back in. Water sits at a warm 26 to 30 degrees year round.
