Experience wildlife and cultural tour in Kumai, Pangkalan Bun, Borneo. Located in Tanjung Puting National Park, home for wild orangutans in Indonesia. Orangutans are the closest living relatives by sharing 97% of human DNA. The highlight of the tour is to visit and see Orangutans in their habitat. The adventure will go by a traditional wooden boat called Klotok.

Orangutan Tour 3 Days 2 Nights

  • Day 1: Pangkalan Bun – Kumai Port – Tanjung Harapan
    • Pick up transfer from airport to port in Kumai by car about 15-20 minutes.
    • Start the cruise up the river in the famous Sekonyer River aboard a klotok. Lunch on the boat.
    • Arrive at the first camp called Tanjung Harapan at 3 pm, the rangers will feed the orangutans and we will have the first encounter with them.
    • Return to the boat and we will see the proboscis monkeys, usually they’re hang on the trees in the afternoon.
    • Prepare for sunset. At night we will continue to do trekking to see nocturnal animals, like snakes, Tarantula, Tarsiers, or glowing mushrooms. Dinner & overnight on the boat.
  • Day 2: Pondok Tanggui – Camp Leakey
    • After breakfast, we will go to Pondok Tanggui at feeding time 9 am. Tanggui was a release camp for young Orangutans that were rehabilitated.
    • Continue to Camp Leakey. Established in 1971, the name Camp Leaky comes from Birutte’s own teacher, the Paleoanthropologist Louis Leakey. About 200 orangutans had been cured and returned to the jungles. Lunch on the boat. (The museum is currently closed for maintenance purposes until further notice)
    • At 2 pm we can see the feeding time of the Orangutans. We can visit the small museum made by the scientist Dr. Birute Galdikas. A short trek through the jungle on our way back to the boat to look for wild orangutans and other animals.
    • In the afternoon, if it does not rain, the boat will be docked near a firefly congregation, and we can enjoy the show of its luminescence. Dinner & overnight on the boat.
  • Day 3: Kumai Port – Pangkalan Bun
    • After breakfast, we will go to Kumai port and transfer to the airport.

Orangutan Tour 4 Days 3 Nights

  • Day 1: Pangkalan Bun – Kumai Port – Tanjung Harapan
    • Pick up transfer from airport to port in Kumai by car about 15-20 minutes.
    • Start the cruise up the river in the famous Sekonyer River aboard a klotok. Breakfast & Lunch & on the boat.
    • Arrive at the first camp called Tanjung Harapan at 3 pm, the rangers will feed the orangutans & you’ll have the first encounter with them. Here we can do the reforestation where you can be volunteers to plant a tree.
    • Return to the boat & we’ll see the proboscis monkeys, usually they’re hang on the trees in the afternoon.
    • Prepare for sunset. At night we’ll continue to do trekking to see nocturnal animals, like snakes, Tarantula, Tarsiers, or glowing mushrooms. Dinner & overnight on the boat.
  • Day 2: Tanjung Harapan Village – Proboscis Tour – Camp Leakey
    • After breakfast, we’ll visit the Tanjung Harapan Village inside the national park.
    • Back to the boat, cruising the Sekonyer river, see the vegetation around the riverbank, Nipa Palm, Pandanus, & wild animal like crocodiles or large lizards. Lunch on the boat.
    • Arrive at Camp Leakey, at 2 pm we can see the feeding time of the Orangutans. We can visit the small museum made by the scientist Dr. Birute Galdikas (The museum is currently closed for maintenance purposes until further notice). Dinner & overnight on the boat.
  • Day 3: Pondok Tanggui – Camp Leakey – Boat
    • After breakfast, we’ll go to Pondok Tanggui.
    • At 9 am, we’ll see the feeding camp at Pondok Tanggui. Lunch on the boat.
    • After lunch, we’ll go to Camp Leakey for the feeding.
    • Boat will park at Nipah palm area. At this place you’ve possibility to see fireflies & enjoy the show of luminescence (depends on the weather). Dinner & overnight on the boat.
  • Day 4: Kumai Port – Pangkalan Bun
    • After breakfast, we will go to Kumai port and transfer to the airport.

  • Day 3: Kumai – Pangkalan Bun – Dayak Village
    • After breakfast, we’ll set sail to Kumai.
    • In the afternoon, we’ll go to Dayak Village by car about 5 hours. Pass through indigenous villages & witness river workers.
    • Stop for lunch along the way.
    • Arrive at the Dayak village. We’ll visit the Long House, a traditional Dayak dwelling. Experience the warm hospitality of the village with dances & local liquor.
    • Explore the village, join a communal dinner with the whole tribe. Dance & enjoy the night with them on the Horn Bill Festival. Overnight at Long House.
  • Day 4: Dayak Village – Pangkalan Bun
    • After breakfast, explore the village surrounding. Engage in conversations and share stories with the locals. Assist with daily tasks and witness their manual works, including masks, carpets, statues, etc.
    • In the afternoon, begin the journey back to Pangkalan Bun. Make a stop at the Kotawaringin Palace for photo opportunities.
    • Lunch along the way.
    • Arrive at Pangkalan Bun, transfer to the hotel.
    • Dinner at the hotel.
  • Day 5: Hotel – Pangkalan Bun Aiport
    • After breakfast, transfer to the airport.
